Wegovy and Mounjaro reimbursement: what to know in 2026

Since 15 June 2026, Wegovy and Mounjaro can be reimbursed by French health insurance (Assurance Maladie) for adults, in strictly defined situations of obesity. This coverage follows the order of 10 June 2026, published in the Journal Officiel on 12 June 2026. Coverage applies to obesity in adults under precise indications: following failure of a well-conducted nutritional programme (less than 5% weight loss at 6 months), and always alongside a calorie-controlled diet and regular physical activity. To find out whether you are eligible for reimbursement of Wegovy or Mounjaro, easily consult a general practitioner on Feeli.

Are Wegovy and Mounjaro reimbursed?

Yes, Wegovy and Mounjaro have been reimbursed since 15 June 2026, but only for precise indications. To benefit from reimbursement, adult patients must meet official criteria:

  •  Initial BMI ≥ 40 kg/m² with no comorbidity, or initial BMI ≥ 35 kg/m² with a comorbidity (type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure…);

  •  After failure of a well-conducted nutritional programme;

  •  Always alongside a calorie-controlled diet and increased physical activity.

Regarding comorbidities, they notably include (non-exhaustive list):

  •  Type 2 diabetes requiring treatment;

  •  High blood pressure;

  •  Severe treatment-resistant hypertriglyceridaemia;

  •  Polycystic ovary syndrome;

  •  NASH/liver fibrosis;

  •  Fertility problems with a planned course of assisted reproduction (ART);

  •  Chronic kidney disease at certain stages;

  •  Chronic kidney disease at certain stages;

  •  Chronic lower back pain;

  •  Certain disabling forms of osteoarthritis;

  •  Disabling urinary incontinence;

  •  Symptomatic abdominal wall hernia or eventration;

  •  Idiopathic intracranial hypertension;

  •  Or motor disability, with or without paraplegia.

What is the reimbursement rate?

The base rate applied by French health insurance (Assurance Maladie) is 65% for anti-obesity medications. The remaining cost then depends on your complementary health insurance (mutuelle, possible CSS), any excesses (franchises) and the patient's medical situation. Dispensing fees may also be added to the price of the medication.

Since when has coverage been in effect?

The reimbursement of Wegovy and Mounjaro has been in effect since 15 June 2026. This decision was confirmed by the order of 10 June 2026, published in the Journal Officiel on 12 June 2026. Key point: Wegovy and Mounjaro are not reimbursed for all patients; coverage is reserved for adult patients who meet precise medical criteria, with a base reimbursement rate of 65% since 15 June 2026. To benefit from the best treatment strategy, online consultation on Feeli is available in under 2 hours and without an appointment.

Why did the HAS give a favourable opinion?

The HAS (Haute Autorité de Santé, the French health authority) issued a favourable opinion on the reimbursement of Wegovy and Mounjaro because these treatments provide a clinical benefit in the care of severe obesity, within a strictly defined framework. However, the health authorities stress the importance of non-drug interventions: weight loss does not rely on a single medication, but on comprehensive care (diet, physical activity, medical follow-up).

From when should the treatment be reassessed?

The effectiveness of the anti-obesity treatment can be reassessed from 6 months onward: it is a second-line treatment that can be started after failure of dietary measures and weight loss of less than 5% at 6 months. In other words, it is after 6 months that one can assess whether the non-drug strategy was sufficient or not. In all cases, medical follow-up is essential, notably to adjust the dosage during treatment or report side effects.

Wegovy and Mounjaro reimbursement form: which document should be used?

To get reimbursed for Wegovy or Mounjaro under the obesity indication, the prescribing doctor must complete a document: the prescription for exceptional medicines or products and services (S3326 / Cerfa 12708*02). In addition, the prescription must properly fall within the framework set out by the health authorities. In short, exceptional medicines are reimbursed only if the prescribing conditions are met.

Wegovy and Mounjaro reimbursement form: what is the Cerfa S3326 for?

The Cerfa S3326 is the document certifying that the prescription meets the conditions giving entitlement to reimbursement. It is therefore not a standard prescription: this specific form is reserved for medicines subject to the exceptional medicines formality, such as Wegovy or Mounjaro. Lastly, this treatment must always be prescribed as a second-line option, after failure of a well-conducted nutritional programme, and always alongside a calorie-controlled diet and increased physical activity.

Does the exceptional prescription replace the standard prescription?

No, the standard prescription remains the usual document for any prescription. If it involves an exceptional medicine, such as Wegovy or Mounjaro, the prescriber must use the S3326 form, which certifies that the conditions giving entitlement to reimbursement have been met. In the case of an exempting long-term condition (ALD exonérante), the exceptional prescription may also serve as the dual-section prescription (ordonnance bizone) for prescriptions linked to the ALD. Lastly, if the prescription falls outside the reimbursable framework, a standard prescription remains possible, but without coverage from French health insurance.

What must the doctor give the patient?

The exceptional prescription has several parts: the patient must keep the first, the second and third parts are intended for French health insurance, and the fourth part is kept by the pharmacist, supplier or institution.

Prescribing Wegovy and Mounjaro: what to remember

In practice, it works simply: if the prescription falls within the reimbursable framework, an S3326 exceptional prescription is used by the doctor; otherwise, it is a standard prescription, without coverage from French health insurance. Lastly, these treatments remain second-line solutions and must always be combined with dietary measures and physical activity.

Price of Wegovy and Mounjaro: how much do they cost?

Wegovy and Mounjaro will be reimbursed at 65% by French health insurance (Assurance Maladie) from 15 June 2026. The actual cost of treatment is therefore calculated on the basis of the public retail price (including tax), to which the 35% remaining cost applies, before any reimbursement from your complementary insurance. Dispensing fees may also be added.

How much does Wegovy cost?

The public retail price (including tax) of Wegovy varies according to the dose prescribed:

  •  €146.91 for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg doses;

  •  €169.31 for the 1.7 mg dose;

  •  €195.10 for the 2.4 mg dose.

With 65% reimbursement, the theoretical remaining cost is approximately:

  •  €51.42 for the doses priced at €146.91;

  •  €59.26 for the 1.7 mg dose;

  •  €68.29 for the 2.4 mg dose.

The remaining cost can then be reimbursed by your complementary health insurance (mutuelle, CSS) according to the terms of your contract. Dispensing fees may also apply when the medication is dispensed at the pharmacy.

How much does Mounjaro cost?

The public retail price (including tax) of Mounjaro also varies according to the dose prescribed:

  •  €176.10 for the 2.5 mg dose;

  •  €237.68 for the 5 mg dose;

  •  €335.95 for the 7.5 mg and 10 mg doses;

  •  €433.80 for the 12.5 mg and 15 mg doses.

If you are eligible for 65% reimbursement, the theoretical remaining cost is approximately:

  •  €61.64 for the 2.5 mg dose;

  •  €83.19 for the 5 mg dose;

  •  €117.58 for the 7.5 mg and 10 mg doses;

  •  €151.83 for the 12.5 mg and 15 mg doses.

Important point: the amounts shown are provided for guidance only; they may vary depending on the dose prescribed, the dispensing conditions at the pharmacy, and coverage from your complementary health insurance (mutuelle, CSS). For more information, easily consult an online doctor.

Can reimbursement be increased to 100%?

Yes, in certain specific cases, notably an exempting long-term condition (ALD exonérante), reimbursement of Wegovy or Mounjaro can be increased to 100% of the reimbursement base. However, certain amounts may remain payable, such as fee overruns or the flat-rate patient contribution, depending on the situation.
